NpHR is a halorhodopsin or a light-sensitive chloride channel that provides silencing of neuronal activity by hyperpolarization. The addition of the C-terminal trafficking signal from the potassium ion channel Kir2.1 to NpHR gave birth to eNpHR3.0. It offers fast inhibition, and its peak activation falls at 580-680 nm.
